Australian art history/criticism is also an important component of every painting and drawing class.
Adult beginners class topics cover the history of art practice in Australia from the days of the first settlement through to the contemporary scene. International art trends – particularly in the way they impacted on the Australian artists – are also considered.
Last term we looked at artists in relation to the theme of ‘Art and the Suburbs’. Amongst others we examined the work of such disparate artists as John Brack, Howard Arkley and Chris O’Doherty.
Art history slide talks are also given in children’s afternoon classes where the work of a major national or international artist is regularly discussed.
